Sports and athletics have been a huge part of Geoff’s life since an early age. From soccer to football, white water katarafting to running, sports and competition have always been a part of his life. Most of his highlights came while playing competitive racquetball, where at the age of 15 he was invited to the OlympicTraining Center inColorado Springs to participate in an elite level camp run by the National Team coaches. Geoff moved back to Helena from Spokane where he spent the better part of a decade working with adolescents and their families as a counselor. Shortly after returning home to Helena Geoff experienced a devastating knee injury while playing on dirtbikes. He ventured into the world of CrossFit to help regain strength. His passion for CrossFit has only grown. As a former competitor, CrossFit continued to fuel the competitive passion within as well as the desire to help others. Along with improving his skills as a coach/trainer Geoff is actively pursuing his Crossfit Level 2 trainer certificate and Certified Crossfit Trainer credential. He not only hopes to be a great trainer, but also a great CrossFit competitor along side his fellow trainers and friends.
Krista’s goal as a coach is to facilitate the community feel of CrossFit while helping members get stronger and healthier. She grew up playing competitive sports and continues to help with her boys’ teams. Krista is an avid runner and is a bit crazy about obstacle course races. Krista was drawn to CrossFit by the people and loves that it allows room for her competitive nature to shine. When Krista isn’t at the gym she is trail running, doing 4-H with her boys, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, or camping. Krista is dedicated to helping each of you be better at whatever your chosen activity may be.
Jay grew up loving sports and the outdoors. He played basketball in high school and continues playing today in city leagues and at a local church. He also coaches boys and girls junior high basketball. Jay likes to go “peak bagging” (climbing the highest point in a mountain range) and hiking. Jay also enjoys running and has done two marathons and runs a half marathon with his wife every year. Jay started CrossFit over two years ago and has been amazed at the improvements in strength and abilities it has given him in the short amount of time he has done it. Jay wants to help everyone become a better, healthier version of themselves.
Juli grew up in Montana loving sports and the outdoors. Juli rode horses and played basketball, tennis and volleyball throughout her childhood. Juli received a scholarship to play volleyball for Montana Tech, then moved to Helena to start her career and family. When she isn’t running kids around to dance, basketball, volleyball, and taekwondo, she continues her love of sports and the outdoors by hiking and running. She has done Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, has run two marathons, and does a half marathon with her husband every year. Juli has been doing CrossFit for almost 3 years. It has helped her in her ability to do all the things she loves better, and she wants to help you achieve your goals with the help of CrossFit.
Preston has been very competitive for as long as he can remember; from racing his mom to the car at the grocery store to competing as a high school Mathlete. He enjoys the outdoors; hunting, snowboarding, mountain biking and anything fitness other than running. He played football for Carroll and graduated with a degree in Nursing. He is very passionate in helping others achieve optimal health, fitness and wellness so that they can stay clear of him at the hospital. He began his Crossfit journey in late 2014 and has loved every second of it. He LOVES the Crossfit community and the competition aspect as well.
Brian has been doing CrossFit since 2008. He has a lot of experience with CrossFit movements and theory. Brian also has an extensive strength and conditioning background beyond CrossFit. At Carroll he teaches exercise physiology, sports nutrition, strength and conditioning. He is the Head Athletic Trainer at Carroll as well and is both NASM-PES and a CrossFit level 1 coach. Brian enjoys helping others live a healthy and active life. He has been known to down a large amount of milk with a box of Oreos on occasion. Brian Believes you need to have balance and not take life too serious!
Rick has been involved in sports and physical activity since middle school. He played football, wrestled, and ran track in high school. Soon after high school he started cycling and racing bikes. He did that for 25 years before he found CrossFit in 2015. He has a degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas. He also likes to participate in several physical endeavors outside of CrossFit including climbing, mountaineering, hiking, and backpacking with his wife and 4 kids. Rick got his level 1 certification in 2016 and started coaching in 2017. He looks forward to helping you reach your CrossFit goals.
Ryan has been an active person his whole life, whether it was hunting and fishing or sports like soccer and snowboarding in high school. He began crossfit in January 2016 and obtained his CF-L1 in March 2016. He believes gains realized from crossfit have allowed him to better participate in and enjoy his more recent physical interests. These interests include mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, and endurance events like the Spartan Races and GoRuck Events.
Ryan began coaching in December 2016. He enjoys coaching crossfit and seeing the progress made by the athletes he coaches. This community is getting stronger and healthier, and he is proud to be a part of that.
Kelly grew up on a small farm and spent most of his “free time” moving hay, carrying feed and cutting, hauling and splitting firewood. Although he didn’t realize it at the time, he was building functional movement patterns and work capacity. Throughout high school, he played football and wrestled, then enlisted in the USAF following graduation. Although his early years in the military involved physical training, that decreased as the years passed–along with his mobility, strength, stamina and health. Upon leaving active duty in 2008, Kelly became a federal law enforcement officer and attended training in 2010 where functional movements like wall balls, burpees and air squats were incorporated into the fitness program. After 11 weeks training, he noticed significant changes in his fitness level. It was about this time he learned of CrossFit, but it would take him another six years to finally make his way into FireTower CrossFit for his first “official” workout. Since then, he has made steady and consistent gains in his fitness. Prior to CrossFit, Kelly was taking medication for high blood pressure and constantly felt the aches and pains of 20+ years of military service. Now his BP is normal (no meds) and he is on the way back to finding that “farm boy” fitness of his late teens. Kelly’s decision to become a CrossFit Level 1 coach was based on his desire to help others learn about the lifestyle changes possible through CrossFit, ultimately helping them thrive in life…not just survive.
In omnia paratis – ready for anything
Judy is your ordinary, regular, average person. Although she played softball in high school, ran track in middle school and served in the military, she never really considered herself an athlete. She spent the majority of the last 20 years putting health and fitness on the back burner in favor of family, school and work, as many of us do. Then it caught up to her. She looked in the mirror one day and saw what her unhealthy lifestyle was doing to her. She wasn’t living life. She was existing. That was February of 2016. She started CrossFit that March, only to be derailed with appendicitis and another surgery (complications from the first). However, that little taste of CrossFit and the community at FireTower CrossFit got her hooked and all she could think about during the 6 weeks of recovery was getting back. Today, she is healthy in so many ways. She loves to use her fitness to do all sorts of things she sat on the sidelines for in the past: hike, fish, hunt, compete and so much more. It is her successes with CrossFit that made her want to pursue coaching, so that she could help those other ordinary, regular, average people find and embrace a healthy lifestyle, so they could use their fitness to truly live life and find their inner athlete.
